TM Improves Health

Mind/Body Connection

The physiological response during TM has been found to be the extreme opposite of your body’s stress response. Even though Transcendental Meditation is purely a mental technique, because mind and body are closely connected, our body reaches a state of profound rest when our mind settles. This rest is about twice as deep as the rest gained during sleep, but during TM the mind is highly alert while deeply rested. Scientists call this a state of restful alertness.

Stress Related Disease

Statistics reveal that stress actually causes eighty to ninety percent of illnesses. For many women being the main caregiver of the family and having the pressure of working or a career can be highly stressful, and accumulating stress takes its toll on our mental, emotional and physical health. Women are more likely than men to suffer from chronic mental and physical conditions affecting quality of life, rather than the acute and life-threatening diseases, addictions and accidents more often experienced by men (Graham, H 1993). Some of the ailments that have been linked to stress include migraine headaches, premenstrual syndrome, allergies, insomnia, anxiety attacks, depression, diabetes, A.D.D. and A.D.H.D., arthritis, asthma, cancer, chronic back problems, chronic fatigue syndrome, colitis, cystic fibrosis, heart disease, hypertension, psoriasis, strokes, ulcers, and many others.

Stress is Naturally Dissolved During TM

During the deep rest of TM, stress is automatically dissolved and these stress related illnesses can be seen to decrease. We become healthier and more energetic.

Decreased Insomnia

“My doctor prescribed 11 different tablets for high blood pressure, heart disease, insomnia, nervousness and I had been taking them for years. Within 2 weeks of doing my TM 20 minutes twice a day my doctor began reducing my medication. Within 5 months I was down to my last tablet. I felt so much happier and enjoyed better sleep and better health than I had for many years. Friends commented on how much younger I looked, and I certainly felt it.”   Lilian
